Explosive Bradford Bulls winger Lesley Vainikolo is considered by many to be a "giant of a man", so it's perhaps not surprising that the nickname of "The Volcano" that the player earned back in his days as a Canberra Raiders player stuck.
Vainikolo, who played for the Canberra team from 1997 to 2001, got his nickname when well known Australian league commentator Peter Sterling found the player's surname difficult to pronounce and shortened it to "Volcano". His explosive performances on the field have only proven the ongoing suitability of the name.
Born in Tonga to New Zealand born parents on May 4, 1979, the 6ft 2in tall powerful Left Wing is a force to be reckoned with.
The laid back winger is a powerful player who was voted the best in the world in 2003. In 2004 he was in impressive form that saw him smashing the Super League try scoring record with a total of 37 tries in 26 appearances and notching up a total of five Hat Tricks along the way.
The rugby league legend has recently joined Gloucester from the Bradford Bulls on a three-year contract with one of the best try-scoring record in either code!
Lesley Vainikolo made his debut for England in the 2008 Six Nations championship.
